His father, John Tyler, had been Speaker of the House of Delegates during the 1780s and a member of the Convention of 1788. His mother, Mary Armistead Tyler, died of a stroke when he was seven years old. Web8 Oct 2024 · Tyler, 95, was the grandson of John Tyler, who served as president from 1841 to 1845. He died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. A younger brother is among his survivors.
