The buffer tube is right up on top of the pin retainer. Castle nut is tight but not staked. I don't really keep track of rounds fired but I would guess around 800. Presumably the buffer edge is striking the retainer after each shot. Thinking back, I could hear what I think was the buffer spring vibrating inside the tube for a fraction of a second after each shot. The TF top spring retainers (which I didn't get in my kit) don't secure the spring but rather just prevents the spring from completely popping out and guides it back in.
